5 Reasons to Do Our 8-Week Winter Training Program
We just passed fall equinox, which can only mean one thing: WINTER IS COMING. Yes, we live in a magical mecca where you can mountain bike year-round. But for those of you who are ready to shred some pow, it’s time to get your body back into winter shape! (And for those of you who aren’t into winter sports, this is still for you 😉). Our 8-week winter training program starts October 9th, and now is the time to recommit to your fitness, by building power, strength, and endurance, and increase your body’s resilience to injury.
Here are 5 reasons to hop on the 8-week winter training program:
Add variety to your movement.
If you consistently bike, run, climb, or hike, you tend to recruit the same muscle groups over and over. Our programming not only diversifies the muscles used, but also moves your body through different planes of movement and ranges of motion, increasing coordination, agility, and balance. Variety of movements = stronger body overall.Reduce risk of injury.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: strength and conditioning is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of injury. Skiing and snowboarding are some of the most injury-prone sports out there: think knee sprains, fractured wrists, broken legs, tendon tears, shoulder dislocations, head injuries, and ankle sprains. According to the Sports Medicine Journal, “Providing exercises and training recommendations specific to recreational skiers and snowboarders is important in both injury prevention and reducing the prevalence and cost associated with alpine winter sports injuries.” Save your body and finances by investing in a gym membership.Create a routine.
Fall is the perfect time to reset our routine. The chaos of summer has subsided, the days are getting darker, and now is a great time to build the foundation for a successful winter. If you can consistently come to 3 classes a week, you will feel noticeably stronger (and happier). We have added a few more class times to the schedule, so plan your week in advance and get into class! No excuses. Too busy? Read our previous blog on the subject!Build community.
Evergreen has an incredible group of people who workout together. Making new friends as an adult can be challenging, and what better place to meet people than here! Our members are active in the community, prioritize getting outside, and certainly know how to have fun. When you commit to a consistent schedule, you will start seeing some familiar faces. Who knows, you might make a new best friend! Or at least someone to take some turns with this winter.Practice self-care.
Last, and perhaps most important of all, working out is one of the greatest forms of self-care you can do! (And yes, it does pair nicely with a bubble bath or good book.) Coming to class will build your confidence, improve your body image, release negativity, and offer a flush of endorphins. Studies have shown that regular gym sessions can significantly improve our wellbeing, our problem-solving abilities, and our response to stressful situations. So say yes to less anxiety, better sleep, and a body you love!
We look forward to seeing everyone for an amazing 8 weeks of building strength, community, and self-love! And at the end of it? Enjoy a rock-solid body ready for endless powder runs.
