New to the Gym? Here are 5 Reasons Evergreen is the Place for You!

By Coach Keller

Starting at a gym for the first time is no easy feat. It can feel intimidating to workout with people who already “know what they’re doing.” It’s overwhelming to learn how to use all the equipment and do the movements correctly. Beyond this, your schedule is busy, you need motivation to workout, and you have to be ok with sweating profusely in a room of strangers. Maybe this is why less than 15% of Americans regularly go to the gym!

But studies continue to show us the value of strength training and metabolic conditioning for our power, endurance, mobility, and longevity. You will do significantly more for your fitness going to a few classes a week than by just “doing more” of your current activities. So if you are ready to start, but you have some of the above concerns, let us ease your mind about why Evergreen is the perfect gym for you. (And if you’re already a regular, think about how you can support the newbies!)

  1. No one cares if you do the workout with 5lbs or 50lbs. You may think people are watching you, but they aren’t! They are focused on their own workout. And remember, every single person was new at one point. Our members are welcoming, non-judgmental, and always happy to help you! (And they WILL care when you hit a new PR!)

  2. Every class gives you an opportunity to learn how to use equipment. When you start, you will be surprised to see how many different ways a kettlebell or dumbbell can be used! You can’t learn it all in one class, but after a few weeks you will start to feel more comfortable. Our coaches always go over every movement of the workout, and they are there to ask questions, help guide you into correct form, and keep you safe. Also, follow us on Instagram (@evergreen_strength), because we are running a monthly series on our favorite movements and how to use different pieces of equipment.

  3. We track our workouts, so you have a baseline for your fitness. After each workout, you can record the weights or reps you did through our Wodify app. Not only is this helpful for future reference, but as you build strength, you have something measurable to see your progress! This is an important way to truly see how much stronger and faster you’re getting.

  4. As for motivation, we know this can be the most limiting step. Some of the best ways to help with this are:

    • Schedule your classes for the week on Sunday. Sign-up and show-up!

    • Have a workout buddy. It can be much easier to come when you know your friends will be there.

    • Remember how good you always feel after a workout. That sense of accomplishment (and rush of endorphins) gives your brain the boost it needs and improves your mental health.

  5. Still unsure? Start with our online program from the comfort and privacy of your home! With Evergreen On Demand, you can choose from a number of programs including our Beginner Series, a 4-week program that gives you the foundation you need to feel ready for classes. Or, if you need more accountability, check out our 1-on-1 personal training packages. This is the perfect way to get the best workout for YOU!

And, of course, sweat happens. Or as some say, “Sweat is just fat crying.” So get ready to get sweaty and challenge yourself to try something new. We are here to support you every step of your fitness journey! And if you’re already a gym-goer, please share this blog with that person you wish would join you for class. The more, the merrier, the stronger.
